The Nintendo Wii is one of the most exciting video game consoles ever to hit the market. It is also one of the most innovative and original video game systems to come around in a long time. The Nintendo Wii couples great game play with physical activity to create a complete video game experience. The Wii is selling out quickly because of this unique approach to video gaming.

The Wii is the fifth video game console released by Nintendo. The Nintendo DS, for example, is a handheld system from Nintendo that is actually compatible to a certain extent with the Nintendo Wii. Many people enjoy this form of compatibility because it provides an extra feature for those who own both the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS handheld unit.

The Nintendo Wii is said to be the "seventh generation" of video game consoles. It occupies this generation with the Playstation 3 and the Microsoft X-Box 360 consoles. Both of these systems are extremely popular, however, the Wii system offers a unique style of video gaming with actual involvement and movement during the game. The Playstation 3 and the Microsoft X-Box 360 do not offer such features.

One popular feature in many of the video game systems on the market is that they are backwards compatible. This means that the new system can play the old games. Playstation 3 systems, for example, can play Playstation 2 games. The Nintendo Wii is also backwards compatible, allowing its users to play games from the Nintendo GameCube.

This compatibility is possible because of the advantage the Wii has to fit the games from the Nintendo GameCube. A GameCube video game controller is required to play the GameCube games, however, as the remotes used in playing Nintendo Wii video games would not work with the GameCube games.

The remotes truly are the top selling feature of the Nintendo Wii. The remote is effectively a one-handed controller that uses various software packages to read the movement of the holder of the remote. This makes the video game receive the motion and creates the same movement from the video game player to take place within the game itself.

This exciting prospect of the Nintendo Wii is creating a new generation of video game players that are actually coming from older generations. Many older people are finding that they can get some of the exercise they want using the Wii remotes while playing Wii video games. Many of these games are sports related and thus conducive to continual movement. The marketing campaign behind Nintendo Wii has been incredibly successful in introducing new markets to this revolutionary video game console.
